Fractions - By Samantha
We are learning to find 1/4 of a set.
I made my playdough into a cake and got 12 counters to share across the cake. I cut the play dough into 4 pieces because quarters means there are 4 pieces in the whole cake. Then I shared the counters onto the pieces. There are 3 counters on each piece which means 1/4 of 12 = 3.
Ka pai Samantha! You have reached your learning goal today. I loved how well you managed your own learning today. You are an awesome learner!

The Kapa Haka Festival By Mya
At St Josephs we went to kapa haka. All the Wairoa schools came to watch us.
We went On the bus, it was not very long. There were two buses to get everyone to kapa haka.
Everyone sat on the mat. Some people got their morning tea and had a look around too. We put our bag on the blue mat. The whole school did it together. It was a very long time for us to get off the mat. I liked watching the others.
When I watched the others I saw people I knew. They were very loud because they were practicing. The people were cool, singing different songs too.
Then we got dressed in our uniform. The boys and girls were separated. We needed to hurry, put our kapa haka uniform on properly and put our school stuff in our bag too. We needed to check we had everything too.
Next we performed on stage. I was nervous, I had butterflies. I was a little bit scared. We smiled, saw some microphones too. I saw some of my family. We were very loud there, where we were. There were lots of people too.
Then got back in school uniform. We got some photos. We needed to check it was the right bag, I was still excited.
I went home with my parents. My mum said your performing was great . I felt very happy.
Mya you have written a very detailed story. Well done!

Kapa Haka By Te Arani
On Friday 13th of September All of the Wairoa school's were at St Josephs School because it was Kapa Haka.
We went to St Joseph school on a bus.The juniors and the seniors went on a different bus.
The whole school sat on the tarpauline. We had morning tea on it and put our bag's on the tarpauline too. The whole school sat together.
The school were watching the other school's performances. We saw people that we knew there also. They were loud and cool with different songs.
The girls and boys got dressed in separate places. We had to hurry when we got changed because they were nearly finished their performance. We had to put our uniform on properly. We put our school uniform in the kapa haka bags. It was only our uniform that was the one with dress and the top with patterns on it.
I was nervous and there were lot of microphone on stage. There were some in front of the row so the audience could hear all of the other school's. It also felt like we had butterflies in your tummy. We were loud on stage because of the microphone. They made us loud when we were on stage . I saw some of my family too. My Mum told me that me Dad was there but I did not see him when I was on the stage.
When we got back into our uniform we had to sort it. If there was no t-shirt or shorts we would not have anything to wear home. My Dad was giving me a bug hug because he was proud of my. The juniors were still excited from the stage. We had to check our bag to see if they were the right bags. Other people wanted to take photos of all of the groups that were on stage.
I went home with my Mum and Dad.
Te Arani has written this amazing story. She is working on using main ideas and details in stories she writes.

By Anahera Baty
Anahera is learning to write descriptions. This is the first one she has completed. Well done Anahera. I really like how you have told your audience about what your Dad looks like, what he is good at and what you like most about your Dad.

Term Three Week One
What a super busy week we have had! We have two new students in our class this week, Taylor and Jennifer. They have both settled in wonderfully and the class is buzzing with excitement and energy.
The week started with a visit from our Olympic Ambassador Shea McAleese. He spoke about the importance of having goals and Never Giving Up. The children were inspired by his messages which fit in really well with our focus of perseverance.
On Wednesday our class participated in a colour mixing workshop with Koka Jen from the Tairawhiti Museum. The children used koru, patiki and niho taniwha to decorate their kete. The children were intrigued by Koka Jen's stories and loved their artwork too! Photos to follow!
