Numeracy

In Term 1, we are learning number knowledge. We learned to count forward and backwards up to 1,000,000 and identify numbers up 1,000,000.

We are also learning Statistics and Probability. We learnt to gather data and present it in a table and a graph.

All students produced 2-3 bar graphs to display on the wall. They were able to choose from a rang elf topics. For example: favourite ice cream flavour, classroom eye colour, transport to school, favourite sport, footwear, drink flavour.

In term 2, we are learning to solve a range of number problems using addition and subtraction strategies.

We use strategies like making ten, adding in tens, adding in tens and ones, using place value and using tidy numbers.

We are also learning to understand measurement concepts. We have have looked at money, temperature, time, length, mass/weight, area and volume.

Term 3: Numeracy

Term 3 Numeracy learning is well underway. We have two math strands running during the week. Monday-Wednesday we do Multiplication and Division and on Thursday and Friday we are doing Geometry.

The children are ability grouped during Number and are taught whole class or flexible grouping during strand.

You can help at home by:
Taking with your child about what they are learning in math.
Playing card games and dice games - your children learn these at school.
Using the language such as groups of, shared by, skip count, repeated addition.

Here are a few snapshots of the Geometry work we are doing:

So far we have looked at:
Abby and Kashya problem solving to try and
complete a pentagonal prism.
